Wendy Lynn (Van Metre) Smith-Rollings

Wendy Lynn (Van Metre) Smith-Rollings, 65, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at her home. She is a graduate of Vidor High School, class of 1975. Wendy had many skills and trades. She has rebuilt an automobile motor, was a hot shot truck driver, worked security at a refinery, worked her way up to lead a department at Lamar University and lastly retired from being a pre-school educator. One of her greatest accomplishments was graduating with a bachelor's degree from Lamar University when she was at the young age of 56. Wendy was also proud to be a mom, and grandmother. She was proud of her son and all his accomplishments, and she loved and adored her grandchildren. Fun facts about Wendy; She loved to fish and hunt and could out fish and hunt most men in her world. Everyone that knew her, knew what her favorite color was… purple! She loved the Lamar Cardinals. Wendy was a helper. She helped college students who were close to quitting college, to not only keep going but improve their grades. She was so proud of those students. She would help anyone who needed help, not just those she knew but even strangers, pets, friends, or neighbors. Cremation arrangements are entrusted ith Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. The family will have a memorial service Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Northpoint Community Church in Beaumont. Wendy is preceded in death by her parents, Jack & Jean Van Metre and her sister, Paula Nesbitt. Wendy is survived by her husband Corky Rollings and son Joshua Smith and his wife, Jessika and five grandchildren, Kaylee, Alex, Eli, Denton, and Joslin. She is also survived by her siblings, Pam Hawkins of Burkeville, TX, Dennis Van Metre of The Woodlands, TX, Wanda Felty of Norman, OK and Derek Van Metre of Vidor, TX.
