It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne DeWaugh Brown, 97, of Vidor, TX, who passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Born on December 28, 1926, Wayne was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A native of Falkville, AL, Wayne dedicated his life to his family, community, and country. He served honorably in WWII in Germany and worked for the US Postal Service in Birmingham, AL, retiring as Postmaster of Brewton, AL. Wayne attended Florence State Teachers College in Florence, AL, where he met and married the love of his life, Virginia Nell Cannon. They shared 73 wonderful years together until her passing. Wayne is survived by his children: Linda Kay Brown Dollar and husband Stephen of Vidor, TX, and Howard Wayne Brown and wife Jada Majors Brown of the Birmingham, AL area. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Stephanie Dollar Polk and husband Darren of League City, TX; Lauren Dollar Buckley and husband Marcus of Vidor, TX; Elliott Browning Dollar and wife Chelsea Hammonds of Montgomery, TX; Nichole Brown Mitchell and husband Eric of Birmingham, AL; and Kristopher Wayne Brown of Pelham, AL. His legacy continues with his great-grandchildren: Myah Elyse Molina, Gabriella Marie Molina, Makenna Grace Buckley, Sophie Jane Buckley, Ronan Quinn Buckley, Indy Vera Dollar, Rudder Wayne Dollar, Katlynn Faith Mitchell, and Ashton Connor Mitchell. Preceding Wayne in death were his beloved wife Virginia Nell Cannon, his parents James C. and Lula Mae Brown, and his siblings Elmo, Ralph, Ruby, Armand, Vivian, Roy, and Herchell. A man of many talents and interests, Wayne was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and co-owner/operator of a Christmas Tree Farm in Brewton, AL. He was an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in Brewton, AL, and the Florence Police Department. As an active member of North Wood Methodist Church in Florence, AL, he enjoyed teaching a Bible Study class and engaging in various church activities. Wayne had a passion for traveling, bowling, gardening, golf, research, and genealogy. He enjoyed watching the stock market and actively investing. Above all, he loved visiting and spending time with his family and friends. Wayne's dedication to his family, community, and country will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. His legacy of love, service, and commitment will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be part of his life. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 2:00pm at Greenview Memorial Chapel in Florence, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to North Wood United Methodist Church in Florence, AL.
