Heaven truly gained an Angel as Vivian Norton, of Vidor, passed away February 27, 2022, at Ascension Seton Hays hospital in Kyle, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Vidor, as her family moved here in 1942. Vivian was known for her caring and loving ways and there was nothing she adored more than family. A devoted wife and mother, she was married to her husband, Lewis Norton, for 48 years before his death and they raised one son together, Benson Lewis Norton. Most of her life’s focus was on being a loving mother and devoted wife. In addition, she was also a wonderful sister to her siblings Bob Henry and Beth Cogbill, and she was a special daughter, daughter-in-law, sister-in law, aunt, and niece. One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother to her grandson Henry. Her life could be described as a lifelong testimony of both love and humility, as she was known for truly loving others and putting others first. She was a very special person and made an impact on everyone she encountered. Her faith in Jesus Christ was her foundation and she was a longtime member of Vidor’s First Baptist Church. She had a passion for music and teaching others the beauty of music. Vivian was a very talented pianist, playing at many weddings and serving as a pianist for multiple churches in Vidor. She graduated from Vidor High School in 1948, then from Chenier Business College in 1949 before embarking on a career of working various administrative assistant and clerk positions around the Beaumont area. These included being secretary for the VISD superintendent, administrative assistant to Dr. Pentecost in Beaumont and working in medical records at Hotel Dieu Hospital. In 1956 she began work as a clerk for DuPont in Orange before stepping away from the workplace in 1971 to focus on being a homemaker and a stay-at-home mom for her son Ben. Vivian loved travelling, camping, and fishing and she kept detailed notes of each trip. She also really enjoyed gardening, and this included both flowers and crops. Most of her later life was spent travelling to her son Ben’s various athletic events to watch him play or coach sports. She is preceded in death by her mother Mary Henry, father Lee Henry, sister Mary Beth Cogbill and husband Lewis Norton. She is survived by her son Benson Lewis Norton, daughter-in-law Kelli Norton, and grandson Henry Norton all of Austin and her brother and sister-in-law Bob and Sidnette Henry of Nederland, Texas, as well as multiple brothers and sisters in law, nieces, and nephews. A visitation will be held Thursday March 3, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Vidor at 11 am with the funeral following at 12 finalizing with a graveside service at Restlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to First Baptist Church of Vidor.
