Orange

Roy Douglas Turner Sr., 68, of Orange, Texas, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024. A native of Exeter, New Hampshire, Roy spent the last decade in Orange, but his heart always held a special place for Brownsville, Texas, where he resided for many years.

As the owner and operator of R Turner Trucking, Roy took pride in his work, driving across the country and building lifelong friendships along the way. Yet, it was his time with his grandchildren that brought him the greatest joy, filling his days with laughter and love. He also had a special passion for dolphins, whose grace and intelligence always fascinated him and spent many happy hours watching them.

Roy was deeply involved in his community, serving as the District Administrator for Brownsville Little League Baseball for many years, shaping the lives of countless young athletes. His guidance and love for the game left an indelible mark on everyone he mentored. He was also a lifelong member of the Brownsville Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, June Turner of Orange, TX; his sons, Roy Turner Jr. and wife Susie of Utah, and Richard Turner and wife Samantha of San Antonio, TX; his daughter, Brenda Almengor and husband Alex of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his bonus sons, Colby Buford and wife Katy of Evadale, TX, Garrett Buford of Orange, TX, and Dylan Carmane and fiancée Brandi of Vidor, TX; and his sister, Linda Symzack and husband David of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Roy’s mentor and dear friend, Jerry Davenport, was a guiding force in his life, offering wisdom and support through the years.

Roy was blessed with 14 grandchildren: Makayla, Henry, Brienna, Brock, Johnathan, Ethan, Sophia, Liam, Jackson, Ethan, Daelyn, Jaxon, Logan, and Reba. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren: Gracestyn, Jaxton, and Declan.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Richard and Barbara Turner, as well as his beloved best friend and loyal companion, his dog Lucy, who was always by his side.

Roy will be remembered for his big heart, his dedication to his family, and his unyielding love for the open road. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
