Paul Gene Evans, 87, of Vidor, TX passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at a private care facility in Deweyville. Paul was born in National City, California on June 17, 1937 to William Robert and Alta Evans. Paul graduated from high school in Canute, Okla in 1955 and started college the next fall. While home on Christmas break Paul's older brother, who was a Church of Christ minister, dared Paul to fill in and preach one Sunday at a small congregation that was in need of a minister. Paul never backed down from a dare, so he accepted.
He preached at that congregation on Sunday and after the service the elders offered him a job. Instead of returning to college after Christmas break, he accepted the position and became a full-time preacher of the gospel. He was ordained as a minister of the gospel in the state of Oklahoma on January 26, 1956, at the age of 19, under the eldership of the Bulo Church of Christ. Paul spent over 50 years as a church of Christ minister preaching the gospel to congregations Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and Louisiana.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joyce Carol Turner Evans, son, Ronnie Gene Evans, brother, Doyle Evans, and son-in-law, C. Ray McCurley.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Ruth Morphis Evans of Vidor, son, Allan Lee Evans of Buna, daughter, Keri McCurley of Vidor, grandchildren, Robert, Cory and Tiyana and 3 great grandchildren, McKenzie, Addison and Keaton.
In lieu of flowers please make a memorial contribution to the Vidor church of Christ on Interstate 10 in Vidor, TX or to the Alzheimer's.
