Pam Ellis Lakey, 67, of Vidor, Texas, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016, in Beaumont. The daughter of Printis “Pete” and Martha “Vicki” Ellis, Pam was born on March 25, 1949, in Ohio. The Ellis family found their way to Vidor, where Pam and her eight brothers and sisters were raised. She graduated from Vidor High School, and had been a lifelong Vidor resident.
Throughout her life, Pam stayed active and involved. She was a life member and current Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #914, and a life member and past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile, Ramallah Temple #89. A hairdresser by trade, she worked for years at North Main Beauty Shop in Vidor before recently moving to Margot’s Creation. She also was the stylist for many of the funeral homes in the area to include Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, the numerous Broussard’s locations, Forest Lawn in Beaumont, and Dorman Funeral Home in Orange. Furthermore, she enjoyed working in the evenings and weekends for Memorial Funeral Home where her warm heart was appreciated by so many people.
When her daughters were in school, Ms. Pam was involved in their school activities, with multiple reports that she was the best homeroom mom ever. During that same time period, she taught Sunday school, was involved in Girls in Action (GAs) at her church, and was a Blue Bird sponsor.
Ms. Pam had a wonderful life due in large part from the love she gave to and received from her large family. She is survived by her three precious daughters, Amy Shirley and her husband, David; Jill Kunst and her husband, Mike; and Katie Elliott and her husband, Troy, all of Vidor; her grandchildren, all of whom were her favorites, Ellis Woolwine, Bethani Duncan, Mollea Davis and her husband, Nick, and Trevor Elliott and his wife, Sabrina, and Joseph Duncan, all of Vidor; and her great-grandchildren, Noah, Elania, Adalynn, and Gracelynn, who will be here soon!
Other family members surviving Pam include twin sisters Brenda York and Linda Noble, and Linda’s husband Delton; her brother Keith Ellis; triplet sisters Regina Higgins and her husband Jimmy, Renee Williamson, and Robyn Pokraka and her husband, Roger; sister-in-law Carol Ellis; and sister Becky Ardis. With so many brothers and sisters, she has numerous nieces and nephews along with their children and grandchildren. Pam would also say her family includes her various friends, neighbors, co-workers, and anyone else who wanted to be or needed to be a family member, whether that was for a lifetime or just a day.
Pam is reunited in heaven with her parents Pete and Vicki Ellis; sister Dana Kirkland; brother Petey Ellis; and brothers-in-law Doug York, Ricky Williamson, and Kenneth Ardis.
The few words written above regarding her family, past and present, along with some of the many activities and contributions Pam was involved with while she was here, only scratch the surface of the impact of life on those who knew her. Words can no more describe Pam Ellis Lakey and her wonderful life than words can describe the smile of a child or the warmth of the sun. She was one of the good ones.
Pam’s life will be celebrated Saturday, October 8, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., at Turning Point Church, 3600 North Main Street in Vidor, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Her visitation will also be at Turning Point Church on Friday, October 7, 2016, beginning at 6:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest next to her parents at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor.
Pam enjoyed beautiful flowers and plants, but for those wanting to make a memorial contribution in her name, those may be made to the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #914, c/o Mary Alice Bailey, 645 East Tram, Vidor, TX 77662, or another way to remember Pam Lakey is to perform an act of kindness for someone.
