Newton Kennedy Hodges passed away peacefully in his home on February 15th, 2015. He was born on May 1st, 1921. He was a lifelong resident of Orange County. He served in the Navy during WWII as a Chief Machinist Mate. He retired from Dupont after 34 years. He was preceded in death by his father Hugh Hodges Sr., mother Eunice Hodges (Sellers), his first wife, Minnie Belle (Mince) Hodges, brothers Cecil Hodges of Woodville, TX, Hugh Hodges Jr. of Oscoda, MI, and sister Joyce Brown of Hemphill, TX. He is survived by his wife Odessa McCaskill Hodges, son John Hodges, of Fredricksburg, TX, daughter, Jane Rost of Mauriceville, TX, son Blake McCaskill of Sulphur, LA, daughters Nancy Hartsfield (McCaskill) of Montgomery, TX, Gloria Cribbs (McCaskill) of Sugar Land, TX, his sister Mary Anne Gallier of Hemphill, TX, grandchildren Mary Goodwin, Sally Rost, Blake Lyons, Brooke Lyons, Nathan Hartsfield, Kristina McCaskill, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a member of Pine Forest Baptist Church. Services will be held there on Wednesday February 18th at 10 AM. A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, TX. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to American Diabetes Association 2400 Augusta Dr., Suit 175, Houston, Texas 77057-4989.
