Nelda Lois Herring

August 17, 1936 — March 30, 2023

Nelda Lois Kliem Herring, went home to be with her Lord, on Mar 30, 2023 at the age of 86. Nelda was born in Elcampo, Texas. on August 17, 1936. As a young child, her family moved to various towns in Southeast Texas. While at a young elementary age they moved to Kountze, where she stayed until graduating from Kountze High School in 1955. In April of 1955, Nelda married James (Jimmy) David Herring, and they were married for 49 years, until his death in 2004. They moved to Vidor in 1959, and raised five boys. Nelda was a member of First Baptist Church of Vidor since 1977, where she served in various capacities. She enjoyed singing in the choir, and sang in various church choirs throughout her life. She was a homemaker who enjoyed being outside in the yard. She grew beautiful flowers and loved seeing them flourish, and even once received the honor of Yard of the Month. In her younger years, she sewed most of the clothes that she wore. She was a great seamstress. She could see a dress somewhere, would go find the pattern, cut it out, have it sewn in a short period of time, but with greater quality than those bought in the store. One of the greatest joys of her life was being an avid bowler. She was on the Golden Hub League for 54 years. She received many awards, trophies and patches throughout the years. Two of these were for High Game and High Series. Many bowling trips were taken to State and Nationals. She always enjoyed these trips, while getting to spend time with friends and see new surroundings. Nelda was a great cook, who was used to cooking for a large family. She could prepare meals with a flavor and quality that was hard to match. Part of her community involvement was assisting with various state, local, and national elections for 35 plus years. Nelda loved her family and friends, and enjoyed time spent with each of them. She had a zest for life, and enjoyed seeing new places. She had a smile, and a distinct laugh, that could light up the room! Most importantly, she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and had a close relationship with Him.
