Milton Hyman Block

December 14, 1931 — April 6, 2003

Milton Hyman Block, 71, of Vidor passed away Sunday April 6, 2003 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital. A native of Beaumont, Milton was a graduate of Vidor High School and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hancock during the Korean Conflict. He had retired from Beaumont Fire Extinguisher. Milton was preceded in death by his parents, Hyman Chester and Alva Thompson Block of Vidor, and brothers Bobby Gene Block of Houston and Gary Lane Block of Vidor. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Bobbie Dean Cargill Block, son Milton Gregory Block of Vidor, daughters Karen Denise Rhame of Vidor and Julie Celana Bruening of Vidor, step-daughters Judy Gentry Savoy of Vidor, Debra Gentry Ducharme of Hermiston, OR., sister Dorothy Mae Petrucci of Vidor, brothers Melvin Ray Block and Rodney Lewis Block of Vidor and Ronald Allen Block of Beaumont, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Milton was a lifelong devotee and collector of old-time bluegrass and gospel music, and an accomplished musician, playing the acoustic steel guitar. Milton and his wife Bobbie, a guitarist and vocalist , entertained at family gathering for many years and their music and songs will be sorely missed. Services will be held at Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church of Vidor. at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday April 9, 2003 and conducted by Rev. M. Phillips of Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church.. Interment with military honor guard will be at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday April 8, 2003 at the funeral home.
