Mildred Lavern Thornton Liles, 79, of Vidor passed away Thursday, October 25, 2007 at St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, TX. She was born September 20, 1928 in Armstrong, OK. She was predeceased by her parents Harvey Violet Price Thornton and her brother, Arthur L. Thornton. She graduated from Durant High School in 1946 and then attended Southeastern State University and completed her education at Lamar University. She became a teacher at Vidor Junior High and retired in 1986 after 25 years. She was a member of the Association of American University Women and was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Vidor. She loved to play bridge and other card games with friends. She never missed a Pirate football game as long as she could climb into the bleachers. One of her greatest surprises was on her 79th birthday at the number of cards and phone calls from former students. She enjoyed camping, fishing traveling all over. She was especially proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was dedicated to them. She realized her greatest wish as she inspired them to complete their higher education. In keeping with this she requested any memorials to be donated to the Vidor School Foundation Scholarship fund. Visitation will be Sunday, October 28, 2007 from 6pm – 10pm at the Vidor Memorial Funeral home. Service will be at 10am Monday, October 29, 2007 with burial to follow at Rest Lawn Memorial Park, Vidor. She is survived by her husband of 58 years William Legran Liles of Vidor, son William L.
