Melvin Roy Tortoris was born to Charley Tortoris and Josephine Tortoris in Beaumont, Texas on June 14, 1933. He grew up in Beaumont. He joined and served in the United States Army in 1952 where he was selected as part of the first 500 original group of The Special Forces. He retired from the Army Reserves in 1976. Melvin met and married the love of his life Dorothy Marie Palique in 1956, they went on to have their beautiful family - Daughters Mary, Anna, Gina, Roxane, Lisa and one son Chris. Melvin was always a beloved husband, father, grandfather (Paw Paw) and Great Grandfather. Family was always first. Melvin was an accomplished man in his own right, he worked and retired from Dupont. He owned and operated machine shops in Beaumont and Orange Texas and he initiated Government Contracting for the Golden Triangle. Melvin is survived by his loving wife Dorthy Tortoris of 64 years, also daughters Mary Willmore, Anna Tortoris, Gina and Ben Sherman, Roxane and Ivan Mobley, Lisa Tortoris, son Chris and Terrisa Tortoris. Ten Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 6:00 pm and a rosary at 7:00 pm Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Funeral liturgy outside mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Memorial Funeral Home with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor.
