Luther Lee Brown

On December 27, 2003 Luther Lee Brown shed his suffering and pain after battling Alzheimer’s for more than three years. He died at his residence at the age of 85. Luther Lee Brown of Vidor was born in Huffman, Texas on February 18, 1918. He lived in Beaumont, Texas where he attended school. He was truly a cowboy. He use to ride horses on cattle drives in his early years. Luther always had a horse or two around to ride and cows to look after. He and his family attended the Houston Fat Stock Trail rides and the Dogwood Festival each year. He belonged to several trail riding clubs over the years. In his early years he worked at Gilchrist, Texas where he made and repaired fishnets. Oil City Brass Works in Beaumont employed him during the war. He retired from Mobil Oil after 33 years of service as a machinist. Luther married Vera Irene Broussard on January 2, 1940 in Lake Charles, LA. They lived in Beaumont until 1963 and then they moved to Vidor. He always had a smile for everyone and was loved by all. He liked fishing with his son and grandsons. Survivors include his wife Vera Brown of 63 years, two chidren Carolyn Marie Brown Bair and Clinton Joel Brown of Vidor, brothers, Joe A. Brown of Onalaska, Texas, Hester Brown of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, sister Frances Zumwalt of La Feria, Texas. Five grandchildren, Lori Lawhon of Vidor, Todd Allen Brown of Waldorf, Maryland and Debbie Watkins of Lumberton, Texas, Tiffany Bell and Ty Arron Brown both of Vidor, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Moorman Brown, his brothers, James Austin Brown, Virgil Brown , and Lonnie Brown. We will miss his pleasant smile and kind words he had for all. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont, TX. Visitation will begin on Monday, December 29, 2003 at 6:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. In lieu of flowers the family request that Memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in his name.
