Lawrence "Doc" Wayne Simmons, 61, of Vidor, Texas, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston after a long battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Vidor, Doc was known for his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need rather it be the shirt off his back or the last dime in his pocket. If you met him, you became a friend. He never passed judgement on anyone. Doc worked in the refineries for many years. He was also a part time owner and operator of a salvage yard, where he was known in the community for his hard work and dedication. Outside of his professional life, Doc had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying fishing, hunting, boating, camping and spending time with his family, friends, and grandchildren.
Doc is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Mary Simmons, and their three children: Krysten Simmons and husband Nathan Kendall, Lauren Little and boyfriend Dustin Dewees, and Jonathan Simmons and wife Brittany, all of Vidor. He also leaves behind his siblings, Billy Simmons of Vidor, Sue Colvin of Orange, Texas, Theresa Richard of Vidor, Annie Harder of Vidor, and Paula Simmons of Porter, Texas. Doc was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren, with one more on the way, as well as four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Wanda Simmons and his brother, Sonny Simmons.
Doc’s kindness, love for adventure, bravery, and dedication to his family will be deeply missed.
