La Verne English, 85, of Vidor died Friday April 11, 2003 at her daughters residence in Shepherd, TX. A native of Jacksonville, TX., she lived in Vidor since 1973. La Verne was a retired Teachers Aid with Vidor ISD and a member of First Baptist Church in Vidor. She was known as Groovy Granny to her grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 15, 2003 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with burial to follow at Jackson Cemetery in Joaquin, TX at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 4:30 Monday April 14, 2003 at Memorial Funeral Home and 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Tuesday April 15, 2003 at Jackson Church in Joaquin, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband: William Turner English, son: Jesse Lloyd English, sister: Virgie Belew, and sister-in-law: Ball Meador and brother-in-law: Vernon Wallace. She is survived by her daughters: M. Aliece Mobley of Humble, TX., H. Collene and husband Lester Weber of Shepherd, TX., daughter-in-law: Patricia English of Humble, TX., brother: Olan Meador of West Columbia, TX., sisters: Hazel Wallace of Dallas, TX., Faye and husband O.P. Bazer of Shreveport, LA., Marjorie and Husband Gene Arnold of Dallas, TX., 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
