Joyce Elizabeth Chesser, 96, a lifelong resident of Vidor, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2024, in Beaumont. She leaves a legacy of love, many cherished memories, and a model for a life well lived. Joyce was a faithful member of North Main Church of Christ, where she was actively involved in church activities. She drove herself to Sunday services well into her 90s. After that, she was driven by her beloved son.
Joyce had a passion for reading and the gift of gab. She could talk to anyone, and they were usually the better for it. Joyce told the most wonderful stories about her life and the people she encountered. Over the years, the details may have become a little fuzzy, but the spirit remained the same—lively, colorful, and full of wisdom.
She enjoyed cooking, shopping, and going to the salon, whether for herself or her little dog. Spending time with family was her dearest pastime. Joyce was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her children: Dru Stewart and husband Alex of Prairieville, LA, Deana Findley and husband Charlie “Buster” of Vidor, TX, Randall Chesser and wife Lee Anne of Vidor, TX, and Lynn Chesser and wife Lou Ann of Lufkin, TX. Joyce also leaves behind her sister Jeanell Peveto of Vidor, TX, and her brother Kenneth Stephenson of Shreveport, LA. Her legacy continues through her five grandchildren—Alan, Samara, Mallory, Travis, and Cody—three great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Alton Chesser, parents Marion and Ethel Stephenson, two sisters, three brothers, one grandson (Bryan), and her devoted Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Lizzie.
Her love for life, for God, and for her family will always be remembered by those who were blessed to know her.
