Joyce C. Harmon

Our precious Joyce (Collie) Harmon, 93, passed away on April 4, 2017, in Highland Village, Texas. She was born on September 19, 1923, in Marston, Missouri, to Otto Dwight Weaks and Mary Beatrice LeSieur Weaks. She, along with her two brothers and one sister, grew up in Flint, Michigan. She met Albert (Chick) Harmon, Jr., an MP in the Army, while working at March Field in Riverside, California. They married in 1944 and later settled in Vidor, Texas, where she resided for over 60 years, until 2006, when she moved to Lewisville, Texas, to be near one of her daughters. She worked as the Deputy Tax Assessor Collector for Orange County for many years and later in several other capacities for the county, before retiring in 1983. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Vidor. She loved gardening, interior decorating, cooking and the game of golf, which she and Chick enjoyed for many years. She loved her family so much, and was happiest when she was with them. Collie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert (Chick) Harmon, Jr.; and sister, Vernal Bell. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Edwards and husband, Ronald, of Highland Village, Texas; Sandra Winn and husband, Jim, of Montgomery, Texas; grandchildren Tyler Edwards and wife, Meredith, of Dallas; Lauren Edwards of Dallas; Jessica Thelen and husband, Mark, of Houston; and Justin Winn of Houston; great-grandchildren, Oliver and Samuel Edwards; Robin and Reese Thelen; and brothers Don and Dwight Weaks of Albuquerque, New, Mexico; five nephews, and three nieces. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor on Saturday, April 8 from 12 until 2 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Memorial Funeral Home at 2 p.m. following the visitation. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor.
