John Johnson, 78, of Vidor, TX died Friday, March 29th, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Originally from Orange, TX, he spent many years in Deweyville (Indian Lake), TX, moving to Vidor in 1975. He was a welder by trade, working at a number of places over the years, including some offshore drilling work and even a short time overseas in Nicaragua. He spent several years in both Tennessee and North Carolina helping in the construction of power plants as well. He retired from Beaumont Machine Works in 2007. John loved the Lord, and for most of his life worked as a layman in the church filling in wherever there was a need. Over the years he drove several church bus routes and was the mechanic that kept them moving. John also loved preaching in the nursing homes as well. He was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church of Vidor, TX. His favorite pastimes were reading his Bible, camping and playing dominoes. He loved spending time with his family, friends and his dogs. (He was 6 months old when he received his first dog and was never without one for the rest of his life.) Visitation will be Thursday, April 4, 2019, from 6-9 pm at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Funeral services will be Friday, April 5, 2019, at 2pm at Memorial Funeral Home with interment to follow at Autumn Oaks cemetery in Orange, TX. John is survived by his loving Wife; Florence "Beaver" Johnson of 59 years, 1 daughter; Becky Ware and her husband John of Griffith, IN, 2 sons; Gerald Johnson and his wife Rene' of Augusta GA and Darrell Johnson and his wife Lola of Lumberton, TX. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; Kaasi, Alec, Kayti, Brianna, Ashlyn, Jacob, Lauren, Colin and Bryce; 1 great-granddaughter (due in July); a host of nieces and nephews; and his loving dog "Charlie". John was preceeded in death by his parents; John and Belma (Trumble) Johnson and 1 sister; Mary "Punkin" Brown.
