John "Johnny" Owens

John Frank Owens (Johnny, John Boy), of Mauriceville, a dedicated member of New Hope Church of God, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on July 10, 2023. Born on April 21, 1950 in Port Arthur, TX, to William H. and Pearl Owens and raised in Bridge City, TX. Johnny was a proud army veteran who served his country in Korea during the Vietnam war.


Johnny was a long time resident of the area who made a lasting impact on the lives of those around him. He was a skilled pipefitter and cabinet maker by trade, showcasing his talent and craftsmanship in his work. His dedication to his profession was matched only by his love for his family. Johnny was an avid golfer, spending many hours on the course, perfecting his swing and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow golf enthusiasts. Football was another passion of his, and he followed the sport closely, cheering for his favorite teams (Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys) and players. His enthusiasm for sports was contagious, and he loved discussing the latest game or sharing stories with friends and family. Beyond his hobbies, Johnny was an active member of the New Hope Church of God, where he used his beautiful singing voice to praise the Lord. He frequently sang duets with his beloved wife, Karen Owens, a cherished tradition that brought joy to the congregation. His commitment to his faith and participation in the church community was integral to his life. Johnny was also known for his natural leadership abilities and enjoyed taking on supervisory roles. He approached his responsibilities with diligence and dedication, ensuring that tasks were carried out effectively and efficiently. His attention to detail and strong ethics earned him the respect and admiration of those he worked with.


Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Karen, Owens of Mauriceville, Tx. Together, they shared a bond built on love, trust, and mutual support. Their duets and shared devotion to their faith were a testament to the deep connection they shared. Johnny was a proud and devoted father to his children Shiloh Owens-Raudales (husband Samuel) of Sugar Land, Tx; Lance Owens (wife Kimberely) of Katy, Tx. Johnny is also survived by his brother, G.T. Owens of West, Orange, Tx, who shared a lifelong bond of brotherhood and friendship, and his beloved nephew, Diron Owens (wife Dolores) of Labelle, Tx and many nieces and nephews. Johnny‘s memory will also be cherished by his step-daughters, Crystina Owen of Beaumont, Tx, and Trudi Belanger of Mauriceville, Tx. He embraced them as his own and treasured the special bond they shared. Johnny leaves behind a loving legacy with his two grandchildren (Leo & Olivia) and 15 step-grandchildren, as well as five great great-grandchildren. He took great joy in watching them grow, imparting wisdom, and creating lasting memories with each and every one of them. He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Pearl Cormier, brother Bill, and sister Bonita.


Johnny will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. His impact on his community and the memories he created will be cherished forever.
