James David Werner, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong resident of Vidor, Texas, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, December 11th, 2024, at the age of 72. Known for his adventurous spirit, unique sense of humor, and love for the simple joys of life, James touched the hearts of everyone he met and truly never met a stranger. James was a man of strong faith in God and led his family by example as an active follower of Jesus Christ.

James cherished the outdoors, spending countless hours on nature walks, feeding the birds, and watching wildlife in quiet appreciation. He was an avid hunter, gardener, and adventurer, proving age was just a number when he went parasailing at 70. Whether tending to his garden or enjoying old Western movies, James found beauty in life's simplest pleasures.

He cherished a once in a lifetime trip to Alaska, James was captivated by its rugged beauty and the freedom it offered. He loved sharing stories of his adventures and brightened many days with his witty humor. His unwavering kindness and welcoming demeanor left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

James is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Karen Werner of Vidor, TX; children Pamela Sanford and husband Benn of Brookeland, TX, James Michael Werner and wife Tasha of New Braunfels, TX, and Melissa Leger of Huntsville, AR; brothers Eugene Phillip Werner Jr. of Vidor, TX, and Paul David Werner of Woodville, TX; and his cherished grandchildren Tyler Wade Sanford, Hannahjane Werner, Madison Bozeman and husband Preston, Brinnin Werner and wife Abby, Julian Eve Sanford, Zak Werner, Eli Leger and wife Karla, Wyatt Werner, and Eton Leger. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Maverick Michael Werner and Ophelia Rose Werner, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Evelyn Werner, sister Irene Ruth Carr, and son-in-law Michael Leger.
