James Michael “Mickey” Edwards, 80, passed away peacefully March 2, 2022, at his residence in Vidor, Texas. Mickey was born December 28, 1941, in Houston, Texas. He was an infamous football star at St. Thomas High School, and it was then, when he met his first wife of 40 years and mother of his four children, Betty Carol “Penny” Edwards. She attended St. Agnus High School and it was common protocol for the all-boy and all-girl schools to gather for formal functions. Mickey and Penny were high school sweethearts and eventually married in 1960 and remained married until her death in 2000. A native of Houston, Mickey has lived in Vidor for over 50 years. He was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and loved to fish. Mickey was predeceased by his first wife, Penny; his second wife Bernadette Edwards; and his sister JoAnn Noland. He is survived by his daughters: Natalie Wilson Porras of New Mexico, Lisa Morrison of Winnie, Robin Black of Houston, and son Jimmy Edwards of Houston; his sister, Carolyn Foster of Hockley; brother, John Edwards, of Houston; seven grandchildren: Derek and Matthew Wilson, Christopher and Bryan Morrison, Nichole and Samuel Black, Ray Edwards, Brandon Porras; and six great-grandchildren: Rhett and Aubrey Wilson, Brantley and Myles Morrison, Chase Segler and Bria Morrison. A private memorial service will be held by his immediate family after cremation services under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Vidor.
