James Leroy Evans, 85, of Ridgeland, MS, died Thursday, September 19, 2013. Leroy was a native of New Salem, TX, and was a resident of Beaumont, TX, for thirty-seven years. He moved to Ridgeland, MS, in 2006, where he spent the last seven years of his life. Leroy retired from Exxon/Mobil Oil Refinery in Beaumont, TX, where he had been a faithful employee for thirty-seven years. He served as a director at the Mobil Oil Federal Credit Union. He served the city of Beaumont as a councilman from 1970-1980. He was a member, Sunday School teacher, and deacon of FBC Beaumont. He also served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Vidor, TX. Visitation will begin Monday, September 23, 2013, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., and again Tuesday morning at 9:00 prior to the service. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents James E. Evans and Nancy Risinger Evans, brothers Lowell R. Evans and Hershel E. Evans. He is survived by his wife Verna Aldrich Evans, daughter Linda Evans Shepherd and husband Paul of Longmont, CO, son Jimmy K. Evans and wife Mary of Jackson, MS, four grandchildren: Laura Shepherd, Jim Shepherd, Elizabeth Evans and JT Evans.
