James David Herring

James “Jimmy” David Herring, 77, of Vidor passed away April 3, 2004 at his residence after a long courageous battle with cancer. Jimmy was born February 14, 1927 in Barham, Louisiana, he was a former resident of Leesville, LA., and has resided in Vidor since 1959, and was a retired engineer with Kansas City Southern Railroad after 41 years of service, and was a World War II United States Army veteran. Jimmy served on the Vidor City Council, and was a longtime member and Deacon of First Baptist Church in Vidor. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Vidor, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2004 at First Baptist Church in Vidor. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Nelda Kliem Herring, five sons, Ricky Herring and his wife Joni, Joel Herring and his wife Donna, Byron Herring and his wife Jill, Martin Herring and his wife Terri, and Lance Herring and his wife Selina, brother, Vernon “Shorty” Herring of Leesville, LA., sisters, Lois Johnson of DeRidder, LA., and Lucille Crosby of Leesville, LA., 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine “ Kate” Herring, brothers, Ralph Herring , Arnold Herring, J.E. Herring, and Herbert Herring, and sister, Ruby Hayman. Memorial contributions may be made in Jimmy’s memory to First Baptist Church of Vidor General Fund, 350 N. Main St., Vidor, Texas 77662.
