Jack Cockrell, 91, of Vidor died Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at his home in Vidor. A native of Killeen, Texas, he was a longtime resident of Vidor. Jack came from Killeen in 1940 to work in the Orange Shipyards. He joined the US Army in 1942 and spent two years serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After he returned to Vidor he went to work for Magnolia Oil, which later became Mobil Oil, where he retired in 1983. Jack was a mason for over 65 years at the Pine Forest Masonic Lodge #1420. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. A gathering for family and friends for visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Friday, October 10, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Home. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Kathryn Alice Riley Cockrell, son William Lee Cockrell and great-grandaughter Kathryn Grace Blando. He is survived by his sons Robert Jack Cockrell and his wife Carman of San Antonio, TX, Charles Keith Cockrell and his wife Mary of Port Arthur, TX, Richard Carroll Cockrell and his wife Jaynen of Kountze, TX, daughter Marilyn Kay Shiflett and husband Tommy of Sachse, TX, brother Winford Cockrell and wife Freda of Killeen, TX, 12 grandchildren; Stacy Lane Shultz, Jennifer Kay Blando, Carmie Christa O'Jibway, Tonya Lee Johnson, Tammy Denise Tallent, Kelly Marie Howell, Brandon Lynn Hughes Shiflett, Tommy Lee Shiflett, Jarrod Jay Hughes Shiflett, Nils Austin Shiflett, Maris Kay Cockrell, Raylin James Cockrell, and 16 great-grandchildren; Hannah, Garrett and Jackson Shultz, Brady and Brock Blando, Jace O'Jibway, Tracilee and Amanda Johnson, Derek and Connor Tallent, Terrell, Jayden and Ian Howell, Logan, Camden and Dylan Jack Shiflett and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donation can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
