Homer Rodger Bland

March 18, 1924 — September 5, 2024

Vidor, TX

Homer Rodger Bland, 100, of Vidor, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Oakwood Manor in Vidor, Texas. A longtime resident of Zavalla, Homer lived a full and vibrant life, defined by his love for family, service, and simple joys.

Homer proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army, carrying with him a deep sense of patriotism throughout his life. His faith was equally important, as he was a devoted member of the Vidor Methodist Church, where he found comfort in his spiritual community.

Known for his storytelling, Homer could captivate a room with his vivid memories and tales from days gone by. He was also a man of hobbies and passions. He loved exploring flea markets, where he would often find old jewelry to restore. His hands were rarely idle, whether tinkering with cars, watches, or other treasures. Freshwater fishing was another love of his, spending countless hours on the banks of East Texas lakes, finding peace in nature.

Homer is survived by his loving daughter, Regina Lewis of Vidor, TX; his grandsons, Bryan Lewis and Rogers Lewis, both of Vidor, TX; and his four great-grandchildren: Brittany Lewis of Mauriceville, TX, Alicia Jones of Vidor, TX, Avery Lewis of College Station, TX, and Emily Lewis of Vidor, TX. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Clow Bland, Freddy Bland, Edward Bland, Irene Long, Carl Bland, Ray Bland, Geraldine Peyton, and Catherine Jacobs, as well as his beloved great-granddaughter, Winter Lewis.

Homer’s legacy of hard work, humor, and love for life will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
