Charlie Sharp, 83, of Vidor went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 28, 2010 after a heroic battle with cancer. A native of Poyner, TX., he has lived in Vidor for 70 years, and was a retired chemical engineer after 38 years with Mobil Oil Refinery. Charlie is one of the founding fathers of the City of Pine Forest and through the years served on the Citys Counsel and as the Tax/Assessor Collector. He served as a faithful member of Pine Forest Baptist Church for 58 years and as a deacon for 28 years. He was instrumental in serving the youth of the church through Royal Ambassadors. Several local organizations recognized Charlie for his commitment to the community. Charlie served for 15 years as a trustee on the school board of the Vidor Independent School District, and he volunteered as a board member of the Vidor Fire Department and the Christian Care Center. Charlie served our nation during World War II in the United States Navy. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 1, 2010 at Pine Forest Baptist Church of Vidor under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Memorial Funeral Home. Charlie was preceded in death by his son Charles D. Sharp. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Madge Sharp of Vidor, daughters Gwen Maldonato and husband Jerry of Nederland, Jo Ann Wheeler of Houston, and Cindy Hammonds and husband Tommy of Mauriceville, sister Mary Jo Youngblood and husband Richard of Cleveland, eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchildren.
