Gus Leon Cutrer, affectionately known as "Goose," passed away on September 28, 2024 in his home in Vidor, Texas. Born on December 1, 1944, in Port Arthur, Texas, Gus led a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a zest for life that touched all who knew him.
A proud graduate of Nederland High School, Gus went on to pursue a successful career in industrial maintenance, working tirelessly for 36 years primarily for Texaco as an Insulator. His commitment to his work was paralleled by his service to his country, as he honorably served in the Army for two years as a Sergeant and was also a member of the Air Force Reserves and the National Guard. Gus was also a member of the VFW post number 4820 in Port Neches, Texas.
Gus was known for his fun-loving personality and great sense of humor. He enjoyed sharing laughs over cold beers with friends and had a distinct affection for farm animals, particularly horses, which brought him immense joy. In his leisure time, he embraced his passions for hunting, fishing, and traveling. After retiring, Gus devoted his time to caring for his beloved animals.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Cutrer, his brother John Dean Cutrer and his wife Karen, and his stepchildren Nathan Grayson and his wife Leighia, along with Josh Grayson and his wife Jennifer. Furthermore, Gus took great pride in being a cherished figure in the lives of multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he leaves behind numerous other family members who will miss him dearly.
Gus joins in eternal rest his parents, John P. Cutrer and Lola Gillard Cutrer, as well as his brothers Gene M. Cutrer and Freddy Cutrer.
Although Gus preferred there to be no formal memorial service, opting for cremation and having his ashes spread over his mother's grave, his friends have organized a Celebration of Life event honoring Gus that will be held on October 5, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles located at 2313 Nederland Ave, Port Neches, Texas 77651. Donations may also be made towards the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Port Neches as well. Friends and family are invited to come together to recount memories and celebrate the indelible mark Gus left on their lives.
