Gloria Gene Nash Peveto

December 9, 1937 — January 4, 2022

Gloria Gene Nash Peveto, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 4, 2022. Born on December 9, 1937 in Call, Texas, to Maudie and Jeff Nash, Gloria lived most of her life in Vidor until Hurricane Harvey took their home and they relocated to Silsbee. Gloria was a member of Pine Forest Baptist Church and New Hope Church of God. Gloria loved the Lord and loved to share Christ and pray with her family, students, friends, and anyone she met. Gloria had a huge, generous, servant's heart and was always helping others in need. She loved to stop and talk to people and would help them right then and there if they mentioned they needed anything. She instilled the importance of helping others to her daughters.Gloria taught art and English all over the Golden Triangle area for at least 50 years. She was a teacher in every aspect of her life. When she graduated from Lamar University, she walked into Pine Forest Elementary, asked the principal if he needed any teachers, and landed her first job teaching elementary school. She went back to Lamar and got her certification to teach art and English. Gloria was a very talented artist. Later in her life, she wrote and illustrated a children's book about angels and would print out copies to give to her students, church mission groups, or for anyone that wanted one. Gloria was courageous and was not afraid to advocate for what was right and fair. She was fired from teaching when she became pregnant and sued the school district and won. She got her job back and helped pave the way for working women to have medical leave for pregnancy. Gloria loved her family. She was a hard-working, devoted single mother to her two girls, filling dual roles as both mother and provider. With the help of her extended family, she would teach during the day, at night, and in the summers to provide for her family. And, in the two weeks remaining before the new school year, she would plan and go on family vacations with her parents and girls, and later in life, with her granddaughter. Gloria also had a wonderful sense of humor. She was always telling silly jokes to her students and her family. She loved to make others laugh. Even on the night of the drive to Houston, after being rescued by helicopter from the floodwaters of Harvey, she was making us laugh. Gloria is survived by her husband of 35 years, Edmon Peveto; her daughters Angel Bradley Littlefield, husband Tim, Cara Belle Kelley, husband John; granddaughter, Payton Thomas; great grandchildren, Valerie, Jacob, and Joshua Hershberger; sister, Mae Dell Cavanaugh, and all of her nieces and nephews that she loved so much. Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Maudie and Jeff Nash, and sisters Estelle Mumford, Rachel Pues, and Dora Lee Neild. We want to thank Olive Branch Hospice and Ms. Debra Tyson for all of their care, compassion and assistance with caring for our mother in the last few years of her life. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17 (NIV). But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason of the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect," 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV). For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NIV).
