Gilbert Alston

Gilbert "Giggy" Murry Alston, 75, of Vidor, died Thursday, March 11, 2021 at his home. He was a longtime resident of Vidor. He was a member of North End/ Eastgate United Pentecostal Church for 68 years and was a board member for the church for 30 years. He worked at Schwab Machine Shop for 15 years then worked at Temple-Inland in the wood yard for another 15 years until he retired. He loved deer hunting, collecting model cars, spending time with his friends and family, and taking care of his Green Girls. This mild mannered man touched so many lives through his kindness. He wasn't only an uncle to his family but an adopted uncle to many other families. He would always lend a hand to anyone who was in need of help with no questions asked and never wanted any recognition. Services for Gilbert will take place Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Eastgate United Pentecostal Church in Vidor with the visitation starting at 9:00 AM and the funeral service will be at 11:00 AM with burial to begin at 3:30 PM at Old Cypress Cemetery in Deridder, LA. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Betty Sue Alston of Vidor, TX, aunts Bertha and her husband Jack McCarty, Hattie Burr, Marjorie Burr, uncle Charles Burr, sister-in-laws & brother-in-laws Sherry and Johnny Reeves, Cherry Reeves, Donald and Ann Reeves, and Patsy Zoch, niece Amanda and husband Charles Green, nephews Charlie Atwood and Zackery Zoch, great nieces Courtney Green, Mallory Green, and Shelby Green, great nephews Jace and wife Jade Green, Bryant Atwood and Lane Atwood, and great-great niece Jentry Green and also a host of cousins in the Alston family and the Burr family, along with a great church family at Eastgate UPC and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley and Mary Alice Alston.
