Elmer Lee "E.L." Ellender, 88, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, September 1st, 2024.

Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, E.L. was a longtime resident of Vidor before relocating to Beaumont in recent years. Throughout his life, he was a pillar of his community, exemplifying dedication, leadership, and love for his family and friends.

E.L. was a proud and decorated Command Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army Reserve, serving his country with honor for 34 years. His commitment to service and duty was paralleled by his professional career, where he worked as the Superintendent of Maintenance at Huntsman Chemical in Port Neches for another 34 years. His work ethic and leadership left a lasting impact on all who worked with him.

A devout member of Pine Forest Baptist Church, E.L.'s faith was central to his life. He found joy in the simple pleasures, such as golf, fishing, and RVing, often spending his free time traveling with his beloved wife. These hobbies brought him peace and adventure, allowing him to explore the great outdoors and create cherished memories with his family.

E.L. is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Helen Smith Ellender of Beaumont, TX; his children, Debbie Garrett and her husband Roger of Montgomery, TX; Lisa Goddard and her husband Brian of Atlanta, GA; and Michael Ellender of Evadale, TX. He also leaves behind his brother, Frank Ellender of Nome, TX; and two treasured grandchildren, Travis Garrett and Matthew Garrett and his wife Monica.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer Sr. and Floy May, sisters, Sylvia Aldridge and Hilda Ellender.

E.L. will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his love for life's simple pleasures. His legacy of strength, kindness, and devotion will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
