Dwain Ollan Solly, Sr.

Dwain 'Poppa' Solly, 77, of Vidor went to be with his Heavenly Father Monday, April 14 at home after a lengthy illness. Born May 18, 1930 in Hemphill, Texas to Laura Mae Herrin and Plummer Solly. He left home at 16 to join the Air Force. While stationed in California he met his bride of 58 years. Poppa was blessed to retire at the age of 52 from Bethlehem Steel where he served 31 years - 12 of those as a Welding Superintendent. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, traveling with his wife Maxine Nan and visiting neighbors and friends. He also enjoyed riding his 4 wheeler while picking up cans. He was preceded in death by his son Dwain Jr Bubba and daughter Carrie Solly Rees. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2008 at Pine Forest Baptist Church in Vidor, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Pine Forest Baptist Church. Poppa is survived by his wife Maxine Nan, daughters Shirley Croak and her husband Pete, Linda Meche and her husband Billy and son-in-law Raymond Rees. 8 grandchildren Peter and Kevin Croak, Keeli Anderson, Bradley and Aaron Safer, Eric and Cody Rees, Kara Anderson and 4 great-grandchildren. Sisters Trudy Totten of Evadale, TX, Francis Adams of Buna, TX, brothers Raymond and Drayton Solly of Lufkin and many special cousins nieces, nephews and friends. A special 'adopted' grandson John Fowler. A special thank you to Odessey Health Care for taking special care of our sweet Poppa.
