Dustin Thomas Blackwell, 32, of Port Neches, TX, passed away Sunday, August 10th in Austin, TX. He was born in Beaumont, TX on Sep 12th 1981 to Melanie McCabe and Karl Douglas Blackwell. Dusty graduated from Port Neches Groves High School in 2000, and went on to enlist in the US Army where he served two tours in Iraq in the 3rd Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division. He was in Delta Troop 1/14 Calvary and worked as a Multi-Sensor Operator. Dusty was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed drawing, reading, and music. Beyond his legacy of military service and countless loving family members and friends, Dusty will be remembered for his unyielding good nature and infectious smile. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with cremation to follow at Haven of Rest Crematory in Orange. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Home. Dustin is survived by his mother Melanie McCabe of Lumberton, father and second mother Karl and Sherry Blackwell of Warren, brothers Cody McCabe and wife Devon of Groves, Steven McCabe and wife Fer of Beaumont, sisters Jessica Blackwell and fiance Aaron Harrell, Michelle Blackwell all of Port Neches, and Kelly Smith and husband James of Vidor, and Leigh Ann Coleman of Hillister, grandmother Doris Blackwell of Vidor, aunt and uncles Ruth and Alvin Newton of Beaumont, Brian and Amy Blackwell of Batson, Tom and Lori McDaniel of League City, and Brandon McDaniel of Sabine Pass, nephew Aaron Joseph Fells of Port Neches, and numerous cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers & plants donations can be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
