Dorothy Jean Hunter crossed Jordan peaceably at 86 years of age, leaving behind the crippled body nature caused her to bear the last few years of her life, and entered her eternal journey in Heaven in a new form only God could provide on January 31, 2018, reuniting with her husband, parents, sisters, and other loved ones who had already made the journey provided by the grace and salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Dorothy was born on July 14, 1931 to Tom and Vallie Cox of Nash, Texas. On July 27, 1950, Dorothy married Charles L. Hunter of Hickory Flat, Mississippi, and the two of them began a life together that spanned 64 years until the passing of Charles Hunter in 2014. Dorothy was a mother, homemaker, and a supervisor in the Visa department of American National Bank of Beaumont until her retirement in 1986.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two sisters, Hazel Carter and Betty Turner, of Texarkana, Texas. Dorothy is survived by her son, Larry C. Hunter and wife, Becky, of Vidor, Texas; daughter, Janet Cooksley and husband, Robert, of Garland, Texas; four grandchildren, Melissa Ashlin and husband, Grant, of Bellaire, Texas; Grant Hunter and wife, Catherine, of Pearland, Texas; Erin Weece and husband, Adam, of Garland, Texas; Allison Cooksley of Bryan, Texas; and five great-grandchildren, Madison Hunter, Taft Hunter, Reid Ashlin, Rhett Ashlin, and Hunter Weece.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home in Vidor, Texas, for the compassionate care afforded both Dorothy and Charles Hunter during their residence at this skilled nursing facility; and, would like to specially thank Dr. Hammett and his staff, including Tricia, as well as Nicole with Heart of Texas Hospice, for the diligent and caring medical services afforded Dorothy over a long period of time and through her passing.
Funeral arrangements were made through Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Restlawn Memorial Park, 2725 North Main, Vidor, Texas, with Pastor Terry Wright of First Baptist Church of Vidor officiating.
