Charles Herman Rector

Charles Herman Rector, passed from this world, December 29, 2006, at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home in Vidor, TX. Cremation arrangements were made though Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor with a private service for the family to be held at a later date. Born in Beaumont, TX, October 8, 1958, to Adeline and Herman Rector, he moved to Vidor with his family, as a child. He attended Vidor High School and Louisiana State University. He moved to Burkville, TX to Toledo Bend while in his late teens, where he lived for approximately 30 years and had recently moved back to Vidor. Charles became interested in the Native American lifestyle and cultures as a child. He researched his family heritage and, although, he was not able to make a definite blood connection, he certainly had the heart of a Native American. He began attending PowWows in the area, first dancing as a Grass Dancer. He traveled all over the country attending and participating in events on the PowWow circuit, or Red Road. He become a Traditional dancer and taught himself to do beadwork. He created his own regalia, or outfit, that he used in his dance. He placed sixth, in traditional dance, in the Big PowWow that was sponsored by the Coushatta Tribe in Kinder, LA. Charles loved nature and enjoyed roaming the hills and forests looking for rocks, gems, petrified wood and arrowheads. He was well-known to the Toledo Bend Lake Gem and Mineral Club of Texas and Louisiana. Charles is preceded in death by his father, Herman Rector. He is survived by his mother, Adeline Rector, his sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Windell Evans, and niece and nephews, windy Dee Evans, John Wayne Evans, and Alan Milligan, all of Vidor. Charles leaves behind a host of family and friends all over the country that will miss his kindness, caring, and compassionate nature.
