Charles Delma Wells, Jr., 66, was born on October 29, 1950 to Charles Delma Wells, Sr. and Virginia Carolene Wells, in Port Arthur, Texas. He departed this life on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at his home in the Lakeview area of Vidor, Texas. Charles was a loving brother and uncle who had many varied interests among which were studying history, reading and watching science fiction works and an avid interest in rocks and geology. Charles was extraordinarily intelligent with an extremely high I.Q. His knowledge of history was such that you could mention any date or era in history and he could give you a wealth of information and facts relating to any time period. Charles's intellect was only surpassed by his great heart, generosity and kind nature. He would gladly give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it.
Charles graduated from Vidor High School in 1969 where he was an all-district linebacker and went on to graduate from Lamar University with degrees in geology and oceanography. He worked as a geologist until the oil industry hit a slump and then re-educated himself in the nuclear technology field and worked at various locations across the United States until he returned to Vidor when his mother was ill and needed his help. After his return to Vidor he worked as a lab technician at Inspectorate in Beaumont, Texas, until his retirement one year ago. Charles was a unique individual who lived life on his own terms and left all of us much too soon. The world will be a little less bright without our beloved brother and uncle in it and we will all cherish the special memories we have of him until we are reunited once again.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Cheryl Wells of Village Mills, Texas; sister and brother-in-law Pat and Billy Jenkins of Vidor, Texas; sister and brother-in-law Kaye and Mike Millican of Village Mills, Texas; special niece Meredith Wells of Village Mills, Texas; niece Tiffany Wells of Baytown, Texas; nephews Trey Jenkins, Josh Millican, Jon- Michael Wallace and Matt Wallace and numerous great nieces and nephews. Charles's parents and his nephew, Jordan Millican, predeceased him. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, Texas. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Charles's life will be held on Saturday, March 11th, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home in Vidor with Brother Bill Peterson officiating. A visitation will be held immediately prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 PM.
