Bessie L. Womack Turner, 86, of Vidor, died Friday, December 7, 2012, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. She was born on August 8, 1926, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Myrtle and Ira Hopkins, and had been a resident of the Vidor area since 1951. She was an amazing seamstress. Bessie and her first husband, Howard R. Womack, Sr., now deceased, were longtime charter members of Maplecrest Baptist Church, Vidor. Bessie played the piano, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. One of her favorite pastimes was going to the Vidor Nursing homes with the church ministry. She enjoyed canning the home grown vegetables from Howard and her garden, and cooking family dinners. Bessie was a loving wife, mother, and maw-maw. She is survived by her husband, Stanley Turner; daughter Sandra Womack and her fiance, David Williams, of Beaumont; son Rick Womack and his wife, Louise, of Vidor; grandsons, Keith Womack and his wife, Yelena, of Vidor; Austin Womack and his wife, Ashley, of Little Rock, Arkansas; and Aaron Womack and his wife, Natalie, of Vidor; great grandchildren, Kayla Womack of Mauriceville, Keith, Christian, Jacob, Hayden, and Brenden, all of Vidor, and Aubrey Womack of Little Rock, Arkansas; brothers, KC Womack and his wife, Alice, of Missouri and Bobby Womack of Onalaska; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Bessie is preceded in death by her first husband of fifty-three years, Howard R. Womack, Sr.; parents; and brother, Jasper Hopkins, Sr. A gathering of Mrs. Turner's family and friends will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Maplecrest Baptist Church in Vidor, 1005 North Street, Vidor. Her memorial service will be 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Maplecrest Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Maplecrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 1005 North Street, Vidor, Texas 77662 or to Maplecrest Baptist Church Music Ministry.
