Allen Roy Stephenson, 87, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2014, in Vidor, Texas. Stephenson, son of Wallace and Hessie Peveto Stephenson, was born in Vidor on May 23, 1926. A lifelong resident of Vidor, he was a World War II veteran having served his country through the US Navy. Surviving a kamikaze attack while aboard the USS Isherwood in 1945, his life demonstrated the kind of grit and loyalty that was well-known to the men of his generation, who endured so much in war as well as in life. They are truly the greatest generation. Stephenson retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after more than 30 years of service as a switchman, installer and repairman. He took great pleasure in hunting and fishing with his family and friends and working in his vegetable garden. Deeply loved by his family, he will be sorely missed and forever remembered for his honesty in life and his faithful provision and protection for his family. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Mildred Amonette Stephenson; brother, Dannie Stephenson; sister, Virginia Stephenson Whitmire; twin sister, Aileen Rose Stephenson, and grandson, Chris Wedge. He is survived by his son Charles Allen Stephenson and wife Phyllis of Lumberton, Texas; his daughters Cheryl Bacon Weathersby of Lakeland, Florida; Brenda Bacon Blanchard and husband, Gerald of North Port, Florida, and Sunny Stephenson Hopper and husband, Tommy of Kingwood, Texas, along with 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grand children and one on the way. He is also survived by sisters Lona Stephenson Leith of Pasadena and Betty Stephenson Poland of Kingwood. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at Vidor Memorial Funeral Home from 5-6pm for family and from 6-8pm for friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at First Baptist Church Vidor with his grandsons serving as pall bearers. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery.
