Henrietta Smith

Henrietta H. Smith passed away Sunday, May 24th, 2015 at 1:05p.m.. Born April 27, 1935 in West Lake, LA to parents Henry Hafer and EPauline Vincent Hafer. Henrietta had 4 children, the oldest son Earl H. Johns-passed away October 2002, daughters Marla D. Cherry and husband Mike Cherry of Kountze, TX & Vonda L. Nelson and Gary Black of Vidor, TX & son Tally K. Johns of Longville, LA. Her husband of 41 years, Wallace Smith had 2 children, Ginny Cooper passed away February 2010 and Kathy "KC" Singleton of Las Vegas, NV. Between them they have 16 grandchildren, 3 deceased, 27 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Henrietta was a graduate of Westlake High School class of 1954. April 1974 Wallace brought Henri, his best friend and who would continue to be for 41 years to Vidor, Texas where she slowly became a Texan, well almost! Henrietta was an enthusiastic bowler for 20 years, winning a number of awards & trophies. Henrietta known as Henri was retired from Albertson's with 25 years of service as a meat cutter, wrapper and case worker in 2001. After 2 years of relaxing and fishing where she was an avid fisher-woman, landing fish sometimes weighing as much as 40 pounds with pictures to prove it, she went back to work, this time to Market Basket of Vidor, doing the same duties. In September of 2011 she hung it up to aid in the care of her brother George Hafer who passed away 2012 and to care for her sister Cartha Rogers of Westlake, LA. She is also survived by brother Arnold Hafer and wife Zane of Sulphur, LA and sister Cyleen Fontanot of Iota, LA all younger than her. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to all of our families and greatly so to our church family at Eastgate UPC. Also, we the family, wish to thank Sister Elaine and Sister Cathy of Texas Total Care of Vidor for their truly caring service. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor. Visitation will begin at 6:00 pm Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Memorial Funeral Home.
